Porcelain veneers are outer coverings. Veneers are custom made and there are many options to make. First, the material which the veneers are made is chosen. A filling material that can be blended for a natural look is the least expensive, color stable option. The strength however is not like porcelain. This will last between 5-7 years before repairs. The remaining options are porcelain combinations. A thin layer of the porcelain material can be applied with almost no tooth preparation. Porcelain veneers are cosmetically wanted to create a white, straight, beautiful smile.
Getting porcelain veneers requires two appointments. The first appointment the teeth are prepared. Using little or no anesthesia, the teeth are lightly buffed and shaped to allow for the veneer. Impressions are taken and a shade for color is chosen. At the second visit, teeth are cleaned with a special liquid to create a durable bond. A bonding cement is placed on the teeth, the veneers put on, and a light is used to bond and harden them. Proper dental care instructions will be given for your new veneers.
